Creation spirituality is one type of spirituality, what other types are there?

Creation spirituality has traditionally been associated with Matthew Fox

I have no intention to talk about Matthew Fox and his particular brand of spirituality in detail on this page. If you are interested, you can read what Wikipedia has to say about him here.

My interest with creation spirituality is really as one of many types of spirituality. I find it interesting that spirituality find various types of manifestations. In contrast with consciousness studies which seems to remains mainly concerned with consciousness and not their particular franchise of the field. Where there is deviation, there is no contradiction as you will often have with spirituality practices.

The sooner you have these deviations or sub-tags to the term (like creation spirituality), the sooner the philosophical undertone of what that new combined term means changes.

So let’s look at some extreme variations on the theme:

Geographically induced spirituality

Aboriginal spirituality

Aboriginal spirituality is derived from a sense of belonging-to the land, to the sea, to other people, to one’s culture.
Aboriginal spirituality mainly derives from the stories of the Dreaming.

Everything on the vast desert landscape has meaning and purpose. Life is a web of inter relationships where man and nature are partners and where the past is always connected to the present. Through their painting, Aboriginal artists are paying respect to their ancestral creators and at the same time strengthening their belief systems.

The Law Of Attraction In Action

Mayan spirituality

The basis for this spirituality is contained within the book the Pop Wuj, constituting an integral element of the Mayan inheritance. The spirituality of the Mayan people of the past and that of today have differences from the changes of society, but it is also a consequence of the invasion that destroyed documents of the Mayan people. Diego de Landa, due to his lack of understanding of the Mayan priests at that time, accused them of satanic practices and wizardry. Those that still do not understand the Mayan spirituality, continue to criticize and condemn, as Landa did it.

The spiritual aspects of the Mayan people are not the practices of a conventional or institutional religion. The spirituality of the Mayan is to share feelings, respect to our brother’s animals, plants, and the language. These aspects differ from the Christian institutionalized religions.

This spiritual consciousness also contains the elements of the day, based on the Mayan Sacred calendar. Every day contains an element that governs and orders it

African spirituality

Most African tribal traditions point to a central act of creation (sounds like a type of creation spirituality) that generally has man as part of the creation landscape, scholars report. There is a heaven and earth, and much weight is given to the Sun and Moon. Most times, this is in the form of some sort of divine status, such as each being one of the eyes of a chief god, or Orisha.

African spirituality is easily susceptible to conjecture and downright fabrication. Even people who practice the variations of this tradition don’t put enough effort into truly learning the meaning of what’s happening. It’s too easy to just pay someone else to perform the necessary rote rituals and it’s too easy to buy spiritually charged trinkets that are supposed to ward off evil. Unfortunately, there are people who practice this tradition that would be quick to blame possession by Orisa or ancestors for the poor choices they make. But that’s just a cop out. If someone wants to do wrong then they will do wrong. It is akin to the Christian blaming the devil for the evil he or she does.

Women and children spirituality

Women spirituality

Women are the power and very foundation of our existence in the world. When women lose touch with their real selves, there is disharmony. So, it is crucial for women everywhere to make the effort to rediscover their fundamental nature.

In essence women spirituality is about the appreciation of the women’s role in pro-creation and for that matter then creation spirituality.

Spirituality for kids

I believe spirituality in children will in time prove to be the most important component of increasing global consciousness. Children are not yet contaminated with socialization and the shenanigans of the subconscious ego. They are therefore able to be more easily in touch with their own spirituality – childrens spirituality for that matter.
